Additional challenges to overcome were the exposed coastal position, time scale as the construction company was already on site, restricted site access plus the glass posts and beams had to be UV bonded together on site.

The solution was to design an innovative glass structure incorporating the following features:

• The main structural strength was in the glass eliminating the need for a goal post frame, thus giving the ultimate in vision.
• The doors slide between the external glass and internal glass posts enabling a gutter to be fitted alleviating rainwater staining to the vertical glass, plus the positioning of the doors meant trace heating to the bottom track was not required.
• The profiles were 38mm, matching the thickness of the glass posts, with four layers of pile weatherstrip fitted around the perimeter of the doors.

As you will see from the glass gallery page the end result is a spectacular room with panoramic unobstructed views.
